VIVA World Cup 2006 The Inaugural Tournament

VIVA World Cup 2006

The Inaugural Tournament

In April 2005, the NF-Board announced that Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus had been chosen to host the inaugural VIVA World Cup, having successfully hosted a tournament to celebrate 50 years of the KTFF, called KTFF 50th Anniversary Cup, featuring fellow NF-Board member Sápmi and FIFA-unaffiliated Kosovo. The NF-Board hoped that sixteen teams would take part, drawn from across its membership.

Viva World Cup

Think it is difficult for your country to qualify for the World Cup? Try living in a place that isn’t even recognized as a county and isn’t allowed to take part in the qualifying rounds. For players living in places like Tibet, Cyprus and Kosovo, the Viva World Cup offers some hope. The tournament is scheduled to feature 8 unrecognized countries in Cyprus in November. Rumored teams include: Cyprus, Tibet, Chechnya, Kosovo and Monaco, plus teams representing Western Sahara, Occitania and the Sami people. Notably absent from this list is Wales, which apparently can’t even qualify for this one.
